In my volunteer work at the Ronald McDonald House, I see how fast your life can change in a day.
10 days ago my 87 year old mom (who drives a stick shift, goes to Zumba, line dances, plays bridge, volunteers at libraries, enjoys martinins) suffered a major stroke. I have been taking turns, with my dad and siblings, at her bedside at Stanford Hospital ever since. My sister is there for the weekend. I am in LA with my husband and daughter for a little break.
My mom's determination is an inspiration to me. She has amazed the doctors. At this time she has a little speech and a little movement on her right side. The doctors expected none. She is accepted at a nearby acute rehab center, a boot camp of rehab centers, where she will spend the next 3-4 weeks.
I will be away from my blog for quite a while...spending a lot of time in California with my lovely mom and equally vibrant dad...who I just taught how to do the wash and how to run the dishwasher! :) And my mom is teaching me... how to stay strong, work hard and not give up!
I hope all is well with you and your families.
Diane
