Halloween Dessert Table

I love this everything about this Halloween Dessert Table! So stylish, but somehow very simple looking. And great attention to details. I adore the setting that was used for the lovely photos!

What a great collaborative project by Shauna Younge of Shauna Younge Dessert Tables,  Emily Steffen of Emily Steffen Photography and Bethany Hway of b*spoke blog and Emmy Lu Design Studio, who did the styling and invitation designs.

Twig & Thistle has more photos and information on this project

Music floating thru my kitchen...

I first heard the "hauntingly beautiful" music of Active Child when they were interviewed on KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic. Their choir-boy-turns-pop sound speaks to my soul.

Their fans have said:

"If my heart could sing it would sound like this."

"A beautifully orchestrated wall of sound mixed with lyrical honesty
that manages to make you nostalgic for anything and everything beautiful."

Click here for a free download of their music.

And listen now...

It's pumpkin time...

I'm always happy when October arrives because Fall, which is my favorite season, gets
into full swing. Long afternoon shadows, crisp days, candles, fireside nights, huge harvest
moons and... pumpkins!

This year, in addition to looking for a Cinderella pumpkin for our front porch, I'm looking for a hand-blown glass pumpkin for our kitchen table. I happened across this blog post on beautiful blown glass pumpkins. These are some of the prettiest that I've seen.

In kitchens all over the world...celebrations are about to take place!

At this minute the BBC reports that the rescue drill is only 130 feet away from reaching
the 33 trapped Chilean miners!  I, for one, will be glued to my television to witness and
celebrate the amazing, emotional moments in history when these miners are brought up!
Let the celebration preparations begin!

On the Island...

Today I had painters in the house painting the woodwork framing our new windows.
I needed to clear off some of the table surfaces where they were working so that they
could move the furniture out of their way. So I put those things on the kitchen island
for the day. I've enjoyed having some of my favorite things around me today while
I've been in the kitchen.

The candle and pedestal above were given to me by my parents.  I've adorned them with
river rocks, dried rose buds, coral that I found on the beach in Hawaii and eucalyptus
pods from California.

This is a big, chunky, handmade vase that my creative son made. I just love it's organic form. Blooming behind it is an african violet that is 24 years old!

These are handmade plaques from Mexico that incorporate milagros. One I found in a little
art gallery in Akumal, Mexico. The other one was a gift from some dear friends.

My daughter made this sweet little snowman when she was in 2nd grade. I love it so much
and I keep it out all year round.

The little owl is a Ken Edwards piece found in Mexico. I love owls. My 2008 new year's
resolution was to see an owl in the wild. I spent hours and hours looking and listening and
finally saw one... in 2009.
